WebRing's Ratings
| Navigation Rating | Uniqueness Rating |
This is the all important rating for a WebRing, as it allows the visitor a fair idea of what through-navigation may be like (and whether or not it is indeed possible). These Navigation Ratings are calculated daily. The maximum, 100, indicates that a Ring is fully navigable, from any point, throughout. The lower the rating, the less navigable a Ring will be: the more "broken Navigation links" a surfer is likely to find, as [s]he attempts to make it through the entire Ring. Here you understand why the Navigation Bar and its correct placement , i.e.. onto the page submitted for membership in a Ring, is so terribly important! MieNet's Rings are closely taken care of, so that they each exhibit a Navigation Rating of 100, or as close as possible to 100. Their overall average rating should be around 99%. Easy Ring Navigation is important for good traffic, as well. So, we all have much to gain from ensuring that our Navigation Bars are duly on-line, and properly placed onto the page we have submitted for membership in the Ring. Then all there is left to do is to enjoy the traffic that will definitely be able to flow!:) |
This is a newly established rating (2004) at WebRing, possibly in an attempt to achieve a two-fold result: [1] discourage RingMasters from taking in member pages that already belong to many Rings, and [2] encourage RingMasters to invite people outside the WebRing System (i.e., new members, new users at WebRing) to join their Rings. The choice of term ('uniqueness') could not exactly be called felicitous, however. As employed, it, falls short of the intended meaning, since it signals an overall reference to the Ring, whereas it is in fact meant to measure solely whether or not member pages of a particular Ring belong to a good number of other Rings. Thus, a number of innaccuracies evidently ensue. For this reason, in none of MieNet's Rings this new rating is an issue. You may have as many other Ring memberships on the page you submit, as you wish. What will be reviewed, and will certainly make a difference, is the content of your page! MieNet's Rings are devoted to quality, variety, and originality (in the true sense of this word). How many other Rings your page may hold membership with, as well, this is irrelevant -- it is your privilege to decide! To close the topic, please see here a live illustration of how little informative this new rating in fact is. And, if you'd like to understand what factors expose this newly added rating to the unwished risk of misrepresenting, rather than informing, you are welcome to take a look at the reflections on Context is crucial!, below. |
